Broadway Box Office Surges: “Ragtime” Breaks Record as “Oh, Mary!” Returns Strong

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the Broadway box office experienced a 13% leap in revenue last week, with 30 running shows generating a combined total of $34,864,840. Overall attendance also reached 273,061 theatergoers, marking a 7% increase from the previous week and an 11% jump compared to the same period last season.

This impressive growth—signaling Broadway’s triumph over the traditional early-July slump—was primarily driven by strong performances from “Oh, Mary!”, “Ragtime”, and the final week of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”.

In the final week of its limited four-month run, the critically acclaimed production of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” filled 99% of the Ethel Barrymore Theatre’s capacity, grossing $1,183,148—its highest weekly tally since opening.

Meanwhile, “Oh, Mary!” reclaimed its peak momentum following the full return of Meg Stalter (Hacks) to the stage after a brief illness. The show played to a 100% capacity crowd at the Lyceum Theatre, pulling in $1,078,641.

Over at Lincoln Center Theater, the revival of the musical “Ragtime” broke its own previous record, earning $1,625,400 to mark the highest weekly gross in the venue’s history. The Tony Award-winning revival, which has already extended its run three times, is set to play through August 16.

Other sell-out productions hitting seven-figure grosses last week included “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” ($1,189,431), “Death of a Salesman” ($2,234,252), “Hadestown” ($907,358), “Hamilton” ($2,341,119), “MJ” ($1,933,319), and “The Outsiders” ($1,063,041).

The top five highest-grossing shows of the week were:

  • The Lion King: $2,428,755
  • Hamilton: $2,341,119
  • Death of a Salesman: $2,234,252
  • MJ: $1,933,319
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: $1,887,297

According to data from The Broadway League, the average ticket price across all 30 productions stood at $127.68. Only two shows crossed the $200 average ticket threshold: “Hamilton” ($217.91) and “Death of a Salesman” ($212.79).
