‘Peaky Blinders’ Brings Glory to the UK: West Midlands Officially Designated as Major Film and TV Production Hub

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the hit series Peaky Blinders has not only revived the iconic haircuts of its characters but has also helped propel a major UK region to official recognition and support as a hub for large-scale film and television productions. The British Film Commission (BFC) officially announced that the West Midlands region—home to the city of Birmingham, which serves as the setting and primary filming location for Peaky Blinders—has been named the UK’s eighth official production hub for major domestic and international film and high-end TV investments.

According to the commission, by hosting Peaky Blinders, the feature film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and an upcoming untitled spin-off series, the region has met all the required criteria to earn official production hub accreditation.

The West Midlands now joins a prestige network that includes South West England (Bristol), North West England (Manchester and Liverpool), Yorkshire (Leeds), Northern Ireland (Belfast), Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh), Wales (Cardiff), and London & South East England, strengthening the UK’s overall cinematic infrastructure—an industry that injected £5.8 billion ($7.8 billion) into the UK economy in 2025 alone.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of the British Film Commission, referenced one of Tommy Shelby’s famous quotes, stating: “As Tommy Shelby of the Peaky Blinders once said, ‘when you plan something well, there’s no need to rush.’ The growing success of the West Midlands as a UK production hub certainly bears this out. Over the past 15 years, the region has steadily built its infrastructure, workforce skills, and reputation. Filmmakers across the UK now have access to top-tier facilities, professional local crews, and extraordinary locations.”

New Peaky Blinders projects are set to be filmed at the newly established Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, founded by series creator Steven Knight.

Commenting on this milestone, Steven Knight said: “I’m thrilled that the West Midlands has been recognized as a fantastic place to make film and TV. The opening of Digbeth Loc. Studios was a vital part of that ambition, providing a new home for world-class production in the heart of Birmingham. We are at the beginning of an incredible journey, and we believe we can build a world-class content creation industry right in our neighborhood.”

Additionally, the BBC had previously announced plans to relocate and establish its new regional headquarters at ‘The Tea Factory’ development in Digbeth.
