Former ‘SNL’ Star Chloe Troast to Bring One-Woman Show ‘Pepper Slate: Live in Her Living Room’ Off-Broadway
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Chloe Troast, an alum of the 2023–2024 season of Saturday Night Live, is set to write and star in a brand-new production titled Pepper Slate: Live in Her Living Room. The show will be directed by Sam Blumenfeld.
The musical comedy, scheduled for a limited four-week engagement, will begin previews on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The official opening night is slated for Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the intimate East Village Basement theater in Manhattan. In this production, the character Pepper Slate—billed as a “legend of stage and screen”—will welcome an exclusive audience of just 35 theatergoers each night into her “living room” for a theatrical experience blending music, nostalgia, delusion, and unforgettable comedy.
Inspired by Legendary Divas of Stage and Screen
Reflecting on the creation of the character, Chloe Troast shared:
“Pepper is a woman who has lived inside me forever—probably my whole life. When I was 11, my favorite musical was Follies; that classic story about the fading of a woman’s youth and the bittersweet color of show business. I was completely captivated by icons like Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Carol Burnett, Eartha Kitt, Little Edie, and Cher—the true divas of stage and screen.
Pepper is a hybrid of all of them, plus a newborn baby! She’s been everywhere, done everything, and is simultaneously longing, pretentious, abrasive, and yet somehow innocent. She is like a live wire and an open wound with a massive story to tell.”
Alongside Troast, the production features Sam Blumenfeld, Tej Khanna, Gus Laughlin, and Jamie Lynn Watson, with Charlie O’Connor serving as musical director. Special surprise guests for individual performances are expected to be announced soon. Troast and Blumenfeld are frequent collaborators, best known for co-hosting the popular podcast Spilling Your Seed, which is currently in its third season.

In a joint statement, the producers noted that contemporary audiences are craving shared, up-close theatrical experiences, describing the show as a “sweet, hallucinatory nightmare” from the mind of Chloe Troast that is exactly what New York theatergoers are looking for.
