Ticket Sales Delayed for ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ Musical Starring Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, ticket sales for the highly anticipated London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical Sunday in the Park with George have been pushed back by several months to this autumn. Sales were originally scheduled to launch back in May.
Producers have officially confirmed that this delay will not impact the production’s timeline. The musical is still on track to open in the summer of 2027 at London’s Barbican Centre. Directed by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Marianne Elliott, tickets will be available exclusively through the official Barbican website. The primary reason for the postponement is to allow Ariana Grande sufficient time to wrap up her “Eternal Sunshine” global concert tour, which concludes this September at London’s O2 Arena.
Jonathan Bailey also confirmed the news on social media, sharing a photo of himself alongside his Wicked co-star, Ariana Grande, posing in front of Georges Seurat’s masterpiece, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. This iconic painting served as the core inspiration for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine when crafting the classic musical.
The musical explores the creation of the massive painting and weaves fictionalized stories around the characters captured within it, focusing on George (a fictionalized version of the painter) and his mistress and muse, Dot. The legendary lead roles were originated on Broadway by Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. Years later, in 2017, Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford starred in a critically acclaimed Broadway revival; however, their planned West End transfer was subsequently canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Audiences are now eager to see what London’s newest star-studded duo, Bailey and Grande, will bring to this timeless masterpiece.
