Colman Domingo and Robert O’Hara in Talks to Write Disney’s Live-Action ‘Princess Tiana’ Film

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, alongside acclaimed theater director and playwright Robert O’Hara, are in negotiations with Disney to pen the script for a live-action feature based on the character of Princess Tiana.

The project, which is in the very early stages of development at the studio, is an original concept inspired by Disney’s 2009 animated classic The Princess and the Frog. Set in 1920s New Orleans, the original musical fairy tale followed Tiana, a hardworking waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant, only to be turned into a frog herself after kissing a prince under a transformative spell. Featuring the voice of Anika Noni Rose, the animated film went on to gross $267 million at the global box office and earned three Academy Award nominations.

This prospective collaboration comes amidst an extraordinary 2026 for Colman Domingo. He recently starred in the blockbuster biopic Michael—which just crossed the $1 billion milestone to become the highest-grossing musical biography in cinema history—as well as Steven Spielberg’s The Dishonour. Additionally, Domingo has expanded his accolades with two fresh Emmy nominations this year for his work on the series The Four Seasons and Euphoria.

Domingo, who is also set to direct, produce, and star in the upcoming Nat King Cole biographical film Unforgettable, previously collaborated with O’Hara in 2012 on the play Wild with Happy. O’Hara is widely recognized for his theatrical work, having earned a Tony Award nomination in 2020 for directing the critically acclaimed Broadway production Slave Play. Disney has not yet issued an official comment on the development.
