Activision Brings ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’ to Fanatics Fest; ‘Obsession’ Star Indya Navarrete Set to Headline Panel

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Activision is pulling out all the stops to turn its upcoming title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, into a massive cultural phenomenon, kicking off its campaign at a premier sports festival. This weekend’s “Fanatics Fest 2026” in New York City is expected to draw 150,000 attendees. Alongside global sports brands ranging from Formula 1 and FIFA to the NBA, the Infinity Ward-developed (Xbox-owned) title has made history as the first-ever video game to secure a headline presence at the sports-centric event.
Tyler Bahl, Activision’s Chief Marketing Officer, explained the strategic decision behind showcasing a video game at a sports festival: “Our data shows that the vast majority of our consumer base buys only one or two games a year—our game and a sports title. The intersection between our audience and traditional sports fans is incredibly strong. Professional NFL and NBA players have frequently noted that the team synergy and communication required in Call of Duty directly translate to better chemistry on the field.”
Following two consecutive years of Black Ops releases, Activision is shifting its strategy for the next installment of the Modern Warfare franchise, allowing fans to experience the game ahead of its official October 23 launch. Call of Duty’s footprint at the festival is massive, featuring exhibition matches between NBA, MLB, and WWE stars, as well as a marquee panel featuring Tyler Bahl, NBA icon Kevin Durant, and Indya Navarrete, the breakout star of the box office hit Obsession.
Navarrete’s inclusion on the panel highlights her background as an avid, long-time Call of Duty player who spent years streaming the franchise. “My brother introduced me to the original Modern Warfare 2 when I was seven or eight,” Navarrete shared. “The game completely locks me in, and because of that childhood nostalgia, I always find myself coming back to it.”
Activision’s presence at the festival also aims to leverage the atmosphere of the host city, as New York serves as a critical backdrop for Modern Warfare 4’s campaign. The narrative is structured around two main pillars: a geopolitical conflict between North and South Korea, and the ongoing exploits of the fan-favorite Task Force 141. The game kicks off with Captain John Price in a New York nightclub, evading capture while hunting the franchise’s primary antagonist, Vladimir Makarov. The game’s setting heavily incorporates New York culture, underscored by tracks from the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.
This aggressive marketing push has injected new energy into the Call of Duty franchise, particularly as buzz intensifies around a live-action Call of Duty feature film in development at Paramount Pictures, produced by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Peter Berg. Tyler Bahl confirmed that a major announcement regarding the cinematic adaptation will be unveiled during Saturday’s panel. Meanwhile, Navarrete has already expressed her eagerness to join the film project, joking that she would gladly accept a role even if it were just voicing an in-game computer system.
