‘Warhammer 40,000’ Animated Series in Development at Amazon; Henry Cavill Attached as Executive Producer
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with Blur Studio and Games Workshop, is currently developing an animated series set in the beloved universe of Warhammer 40,000. Additionally, Henry Cavill, who was previously attached as actor and executive producer for the live-action Warhammer 40,000 project, will also serve as an executive producer on this animated adaptation. The series is being developed as a complementary companion project alongside the live-action adaptation.
This new animated project serves as a spin-off from the anthology series Secret Level, which debuted in late 2024 and featured a special episode dedicated to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Blur Studio served as the animation studio behind Secret Level, while Games Workshop remains the creator and owner of the original Warhammer tabletop and miniature games.
Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer segment in Secret Level and served as the supervising director for the entire anthology, joins forces with John Orloff (writer on Band of Brothers and Masters of the Air) as creators and directors of this new animated series. Although specific plot details remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that the story will center on the Deathwatch—an elite chapter of Space Marines specialized in hunting and eliminating alien threats.
Tim Miller, creator of Secret Level, will serve as executive producer alongside Dave Wilson, Henry Cavill, Natalie Viscuso, and Roy Lee. Commenting on the project, Wilson stated: “Secret Level was not just a short-form anthology; it was designed as a launching pad to tell larger stories. The reception to the Warhammer episode was phenomenal. I have wanted to tell a long-form story in the Warhammer 40,000 universe for over 20 years, and I am grateful to Amazon and Games Workshop for this opportunity.”
This move represents Amazon’s latest major investment in adapting video game and tabletop franchises. Alongside its hit series Fallout, Amazon is currently preparing a live-action Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner, as well as a God of War series. Additional projects based on Life Is Strange, Mass Effect, and Wolfenstein are also currently in development under the banner.
