Tragic Murder of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Set Decorator in New York

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Mary Kate Golding, a 34-year-old film and television set decorator whose credits include acclaimed productions such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, was stabbed to death on Tuesday at her home in Queens, New York.
According to an official statement from the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to an emergency call in the early hours of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, where they discovered the 34-year-old artist unresponsive with a stab wound to her back. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after arriving.
Just hours after the incident, at 6:39 a.m., the body of Golding’s husband, Joseph Azarito, was found hanged in Astoria Park. Multiple media reports indicate that police suspect a murder-suicide scenario. The couple’s infant child was found unharmed inside their home.
Regarding the discovery of her husband’s body, the NYPD stated that officers responded to a 911 call reporting an unconscious individual in the southern section of Astoria Park, where they found a man aged 30 to 35 showing no signs of life; he was also pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Mary Kate Golding, a graduate of New York University, began her career as an assistant on Michael Showalter’s The Big Sick. She went on to work as a set decorator and assistant on numerous projects, including Hawkeye, The Flight Attendant, Gotham, Lisey’s Story, Full Circle, and Extrapolations. Prior to this tragic event, she was set to serve as the set decorator on Sean Durkin’s upcoming film, Deep Cuts.
Adding to the tragedy, years earlier, Joseph Azarito’s father (Frank Azarito)—who had worked in the art departments of shows like Daredevil and Unforgettable—was shot and killed by his other son during a domestic dispute.
