Box Office: ‘Insidious: Beyond the Further’ Tops Friday, But ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Will Win the Weekend

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, “Insidious: Beyond the Further” surpassed “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” to claim the top spot at the domestic box office on Friday, but Marvel’s web-slinger remains on track to secure the weekend crown.
The sixth installment in the “Insidious” franchise grossed $10.6 million on Friday from 3,303 North American theaters. The supernatural horror film is projected to reach $23.7 million through Sunday for Blumhouse and Sony.
This latest entry opened below its 2023 predecessor, “Insidious: The Red Door,” which debuted to $33 million. However, with a production budget of just $18 million and horror remaining one of the most reliable genres at the box office, the film should easily navigate its lower start toward profitability.
Directed by Jacob Chase, “Insidious: Beyond the Further” follows a young mother who discovers she can travel to “The Further” and bring the demons residing there into the real world. The cast includes Lin Shaye, Emilia Eve, Ireland Austin, Sam Spruell, Joseph Lopez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Brandon Perea.
The weekend’s other major new release, “Shelter,” placed fourth on Friday after earning $2.8 million from 2,703 locations. The Jason Statham action vehicle is targeting a $7.4 million opening—below similar titles like 2024’s “The Beekeeper” ($16.5 million) and 2025’s “A Working Man” ($15 million), but ahead of “Refuge” ($5.2 million), which released earlier in 2026.
Jason Statham stars in “Shelter” as Cole Reed, a veteran special operations agent tasked with stopping an international conspiracy aboard a cargo ship. Directed by Jean-François Richet, the film also stars Chanil Kular, Annabelle Wallis, Ramon Tikaram, Jason Wong, and Simon Kulp.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” landed in second place on Friday with $9.8 million, but is projected to win the full weekend with $36.5 million. That represents a modest 47% drop from the previous weekend. The Marvel and Sony blockbuster is expected to bring its domestic total to around $852 million through Sunday.
“The Odyssey” captured third place on Friday with $5 million at the domestic box office and is looking to add another $18 million in its sixth weekend. That will push the North American total for Christopher Nolan’s epic to $538 million.
Finally, the fifth spot went to “The End of Oak Street,” which posted an estimated $2.2 million on Friday. Rival projections indicate the prehistoric thriller will collect $8 million in its sophomore weekend (a 62% decline), bringing its domestic tally to roughly $37 million.
