Bart Simpson Voice Actress Sends a Message to AI as Episode 800 Airs

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Nancy Cartwright, the voice actress behind Bart Simpson in the animated series The Simpsons, has a clear message for artificial intelligence. In a new interview with People, she explained that AI cannot replicate her artistry in the long-running animated comedy, which has been airing since 1989 and shows no intention of stopping.

Cartwright says: “I think I would rather choose a successor [instead of AI], and I’ll tell you why — because AI has no soul, and that’s the missing piece.”

She continues: “It might sound a lot like Nancy Cartwright, but I have passion. We are spiritual beings; we can express enthusiasm and excitement and uplift people, and things like that. But I don’t know if a computer can pull that off or not.”

The Simpsons began as a series of short segments written by Matt Groening in 1987 before moving to the Fox network. The show’s 800th episode aired on Sunday night this week, but Groening says he has no plans to bring the series to an end.

The rise of artificial intelligence has sparked deep concerns among Hollywood studios and artists. While a studio like Disney protests the emergence of ByteDance’s Chinese AI studio Seedance on one hand, it has on the other signed a one-billion-dollar deal with OpenAI’s AI system Sora. In this chaotic landscape, some filmmakers — including Tim Burton and James Cameron — warn against replacing artists with AI, while others, such as Darren Aronofsky, are moving in the opposite direction by founding AI companies themselves.
