The author of the book “The Housemaid”, Freida McFadden, reveals her real identity: “I am tired of this being kept a secret”

According to the CinemaDrame news agency, Freida McFadden, the author of “The Housemaid”, stated in a recent interview with USA Today that “the time has come” to reveal her true identity. She said that her real name is Sarah Cohen and that, alongside writing, she works as a specialist brain physician.
She said: “I have reached a point in my career where I am tired of this being a secret. I am tired of people debating whether I am real or whether I might be three men. I am a real person, I have a real identity, and I have nothing to hide.”
Sarah Cohen said that one year after the publication of “The Housemaid” in 2022, she took a break from her medical practice. She had tried to keep her writing identity hidden, but her colleagues eventually found out about it. However, according to her, they were “very kind” and agreed to keep it confidential.
She said: “My goal was for this to remain secret until I stepped away from my medical work, so it wouldn’t be the case that all my colleagues suddenly found out and it affected my ability to do my job. But I have stepped away from my work. Now I only work one or two times a month.”
Sarah Cohen added that despite her real name being revealed, she still intends to use the pen name Freida McFadden for her works.
She explained: “Even though I had never revealed my real name before, I feel I have always shown my true self and everything I have said has been true. Even though my name may be surprising to some, nothing else has changed. I have always been honest with my readers.”
Paul Feig has recently directed an adaptation of “The Housemaid” for Lionsgate, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The film was made on a budget of around 35 million dollars and ultimately grossed nearly 400 million dollars worldwide.
