Rupert Grint Returns to Iconic Role of Ron Weasley in Broadway’s ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Rupert Grint is set to step back into his iconic role of Ron Weasley after 15 years.

The actor, who portrayed the character across all eight Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011, will join the Broadway cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre from February 2 to May 30, 2027. He will play the adult version of Ron in the production, which centers on the next generation of Hogwarts students.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old, and I’m so eager to catch up with him at this stage of life,” Grint said in a statement. “Stepping back into his shoes now that we are both fathers feels full-circle and deeply special—it’s an experience that feels intimately familiar yet completely new. The thrill of returning to the Broadway stage, this time in a role that defined so much of my life, is immensely exciting.”

Grint’s casting follows the successful limited engagement of Tom Felton playing the adult Draco Malfoy—a run recently extended through January 3 that brought a significant financial boost to the box office.

“Rupert isn’t just revisiting a role from his past; he’s continuing a journey he began as a child, now bringing all the life experience he’s accumulated since the films wrapped,” added producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. “That experience comes from a career spanning film, television, and acclaimed stage work on both Broadway and the West End. His return creates a powerful bridge between the story audiences first fell in love with and the narrative of family, legacy, and the passage of time that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child carries forward.”

Ticket pre-sales for Grint’s 17-week run begin on September 1, with registration currently open on the show’s official website.
