Anne Hathaway Joins Tom Cruise in Paramount’s ‘Days of Thunder’ Sequel

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Paramount Pictures is fast-tracking the development of the theatrical sequel Days of Thunder 2 starring Tom Cruise, with Anne Hathaway now officially joining the project to star alongside him.

Tom Cruise announced the news across his social media accounts, sharing a photo of himself and Anne Hathaway leaning against a NASCAR race car at the Daytona International Speedway. The post also revealed that the feature film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2028. The movie will be shot specifically with IMAX cameras and will also be released in Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and other premium large-screen formats.

Hathaway’s casting was finalized after Paramount selected Jonathan Levine to direct the film—a decision that turned the sequel into Tom Cruise’s next priority project and accelerated its production timeline. Cruise will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, a character he first portrayed in the hit 1990 racing film. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, Hathaway is expected to play a race car team owner and lead engineer in the sequel.
