According to the CinemaDrame news agency, Ralph Fiennes believes that “the ship has sailed” for him to once again play Voldemort, but at the same time welcomes the idea of the wand being passed to another outstanding British actor: Tilda Swinton.

Ralph Fiennes was asked about HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” series and rumors regarding who might take on the role of the Dark Lord during an appearance on The Claudia Winkleman Show on Friday night.

He said: “I remember once, after finishing filming the entire film series, I was asked whether I would be willing to play the role again or not, and that was several years ago. I said: yes, I would very much like to.”

He continued: “But nothing happened after that, and I think the ship has sailed.”

However, he added: “But let me tell you, at some point Tilda Swinton’s name was mentioned as one of the options, and I think she could be fantastic.”

In fact, the name of Cillian Murphy has also been mentioned as a possible candidate, although the star of “Oppenheimer” and “Peaky Blinders” recently denied these rumors.

Cillian Murphy said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz: “I don’t know anything about that. Besides, it’s really hard to follow anything that Ralph Fiennes does. He is an absolute acting legend, so I wish anyone taking over the role the best of luck.”

Ralph Fiennes had previously also supported Cillian Murphy for the role, telling Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in December 2024: “Cillian is a fantastic actor. A very good suggestion. I fully support Cillian. Yes.”

The first season of HBO’s “Harry Potter” series is scheduled to premiere this Christmas.
