Criterion to Release Special Edition of KPop Demon Hunters
According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, The fantasy musical film KPop Demon Hunters, which has become one of Netflix’s most successful original productions, is set to receive a special edition release from Criterion. The release is scheduled for December 31, and pre-orders are now available.
According to the announced details, the film will be released in both Blu-ray and 4K UHD formats, priced at $39.95 and $49.95 respectively. Information regarding bonus features and additional content has not yet been revealed.
Since its debut in June last year, KPop Demon Hunters has emerged as one of Netflix’s biggest successes. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation, the film follows three K-pop stars—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who secretly hunt demons while maintaining their careers in the music industry.
The animated feature, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, has broken numerous records over the past year. KPop Demon Hunters became the most-watched film of 2025, while its soundtrack topped the Billboard 200 chart. The song “Golden” also spent an extended period at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and the film became the first movie soundtrack to place four songs simultaneously within the chart’s Top 10.
The film’s success extended far beyond streaming, leading to dozens of commercial partnerships and brand collaborations. In a rare industry development, toy giants Mattel and Hasbro were selected as joint global license holders for merchandise based on the property—an arrangement reportedly unprecedented in the toy industry. A range of products, including special editions of Uno, Monopoly, and character dolls, has been available since this spring.
Meanwhile, a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is currently in development at Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, with Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning to helm the project.
