Kirk Cameron: I Left California Because of Political Policies and the Challenges of Family Life

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Kirk Cameron, best known for his role in the hit television series Growing Pains, has revealed that he left California and relocated to Tennessee due to political conditions and the high cost of living.

Speaking on Adam Carolla’s podcast, Cameron explained that California can seem like an ideal place to live when viewed through the eyes of a child or teenager, largely because parents shoulder most financial responsibilities. He noted that young people can enjoy the state’s beaches, ski resorts, restaurants, and numerous attractions without fully understanding the costs involved.

Cameron said the reality became much clearer for his children once they became financially independent and began facing California’s economic challenges firsthand. According to him, many families also struggle with social and political issues in the state, which he believes make it more difficult to raise children and build a stable family life.

“My children realized how expensive California is once they were on their own,” Cameron said. “They also saw how problematic the political climate has become. That led them to conclude that they would need to move elsewhere to have a better quality of life.”

Despite his criticisms, Cameron emphasized that he still loves California and hopes to return someday. He argued that the state remains one of the best places in the United States in terms of natural beauty, cultural opportunities, and overall quality of life.

The actor also highlighted the advantages of living in Nashville, Tennessee, describing the city as home to many creative individuals who value family, traditional principles, and national identity. He also jokingly praised the region’s well-known food and drink culture.

Cameron is best known for playing Mike Seaver, the eldest child in the Seaver family, on Growing Pains, a series that aired for seven seasons and 167 episodes on ABC and became one of the most beloved television shows of the 1980s and 1990s.
