Trailer for “Leviticus”: Neon’s new horror film depicts the nightmare of “conversion therapy”

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Neon has unveiled a trailer for “Leviticus,” a horror film centered on “conversion therapy” that had a successful run at the Sundance Film Festival.

The film marks the directorial debut of Adrian Ciarrala. According to the official synopsis, “Leviticus” follows “two young lovers who must flee from a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most—each other.”

The film stars Joe Bird as Naim and Stacey Clauson as Ryan in the lead roles. Mia Wasikowska also appears as Naim’s emotionally troubled mother. Jeremy Blouet, Ewen Leslie, and Davida McKenzie are among the supporting cast.

“Leviticus,” which premiered in the Midnight section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, was acquired by Neon for a seven-figure sum.

A review from Variety described the film as “a narrow-minded, unsettling queer horror work that achieves unexpected brilliance through a supernatural narrative that is both frightening and thematically resonant.” The film, selected as a 2026 Critics’ Pick, was further praised as likely to “secure its place in the pantheon of great queer horror films.”

The title is derived from the Old Testament Book of Leviticus, which some followers interpret as condemning homosexuality. The film blends psychological horror with social commentary, and is set in a small Australian town surrounded by a tight-knit religious community.

The film is produced by Causeway Films and Salmira Productions. Producers include Samantha Jennings, Christina Seaton, and Hannah Ngo. Executive producers are Salman Al-Rashid, Sam Froman, Simmons Fraser, Daniel Magrat, Robert Conley, Liz Kearney, Dale Roberts, and Wasikowska.

“Leviticus” will be released in cinemas on June 19.
