Azadeh Nazarboland, Secretary-General of Iran Public Libraries Foundation: 64 Libraries Damaged During the War

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Azadeh Nazarboland said on Tuesday, on the sidelines of a meeting with the governor of North Khorasan Province, that 64 libraries across the country were damaged during the war.

She stated that in these attacks, the Border Guard Library of Dehloran and the Seyyed al-Shohada Library of Hosseiniyeh Azam Zanjan were completely destroyed.

Referring to measures taken to compensate for the damages, she added that the reconstruction of the Hosseiniyeh Azam Zanjan Library is on the agenda and is being pursued with the support of local authorities.

The Secretary-General noted that other damaged libraries have returned to service after necessary repairs and reconstruction, and cultural services in these centers have resumed.

According to the report, the Seyyed al-Shohada Library in Zanjan had an area of about 1,000 square meters and housed more than 35,000 volumes, all of which were completely destroyed during the attacks.

Nazarboland further highlighted the scope of services provided by the Iran Public Libraries Foundation, stating that the institution serves people in 4,298 urban and rural locations, part of which is delivered through mobile services.

She added that library services are currently provided via mobile units in 514 locations, and 800 libraries are active in rural areas.

She also noted that the number of mobile library vehicles has increased from 60 to 72, playing a significant role in improving access to cultural services in underprivileged areas.
