New trailer for Mandalorian and Grogu: Martin Scorsese confirmed as voice actor

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, the surprise voice appearance of Martin Scorsese in the trailer for Disney’s The Mandalorian and Grogu has officially been confirmed. In addition to unveiling new creatures and alien species, the trailer reveals that the 83-year-old Oscar-winning director lends his voice to an Ardennian shopkeeper.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, and is based on a screenplay by Dave Filoni, creator of Ahsoka. Pedro Pascal stars as Din Djarin, also known as the Mandalorian. Sigourney Weaver joins the project as a seasoned pilot, while Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba.
In The Mandalorian and Grogu, the Empire has fallen and its commanders are scattered across the galaxy. Amid this turmoil, the New Republic attempts to safeguard the ideals of the Rebellion with the help of bounty hunter Din Djarin and Grogu. The film marks the first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker theatrical follow-up in the Star Wars universe since 2019, while continuing the storyline of Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
Before Scorsese, Werner Herzog — associated with the New German Cinema movement — entered the Star Wars universe as an actor, appearing in The Mandalorian. He was recently nominated for an Emmy for playing himself in The Studio and has previously acted in his own films and even in Super Bowl commercials. The director of Killers of the Flower Moon is set to begin filming What Happens at Night, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Disney is also developing another Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling, titled Star Wars: Starfighter, to be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously helmed the studio’s box-office hit Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.
