Anthony Hopkins Advises Young Actors: “Don’t Mumble”

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, during his visit to Saudi Arabia for the Red Sea International Film Festival, Anthony Hopkins offered a crucial piece of advice to young Hollywood actors: stop mumbling. The Oscar-winning star of The Silence of the Lambs warned that this habit could potentially damage their careers.

“Young actors have a tendency to mumble,” he stated. “I know they are trying to be like Marlon Brando, but Brando was the greatest technician in history. He understood everything. He was a very intelligent man and knew exactly how to do it.”

Hopkins recalled a conversation with a young actor to whom he said: “If you keep mumbling, you won’t have a future in this profession. Your role in this film is to tell the story.”

In another part of the interview, he reminisced about the advice he received from Katharine Hepburn during the filming of The Lion in Winter: “She said, ‘You don’t need to act. Just be. You’ve got a good set of shoulders. Just say the lines.'”

Hopkins noted that this experience taught him a vital lesson: “The more still you are, the more interesting you become.
