Tron: Ares Projected for $44 Million Opening Weekend

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Disney’s Tron: Ares is tracking for a $44 million domestic opening when it hits theaters on October 10.
While this figure is comparable to the debut of Tron: Legacy in 2010, Deadline reports that there’s potential for the film to outperform early estimates. Recent releases like F1, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and Weapons have all exceeded box office expectations.
Advance ticket sales for Tron: Ares began two weeks ago and have already reached about $2 million. That pace puts it in the same range as Gladiator 2 (projected $55M opening), F1 ($57M), and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ($60.3M).
Jared Leto stars as Ares, a program from the digital realm of The Grid who crosses into the real world. The cast also includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Greta Lee (Past Lives).
The same weekend will see the release of Roofman from Miramax and Paramount, directed by Derek Cianfrance and starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, projected for around $10 million after scoring 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Kiss of the Spider Woman from Roadside Attractions, Lionsgate, and LD Entertainment, currently at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, is expected to open at about $5 million.
