Hulu developing drama “Orflame” based on a novel by Heidi Cole McAdams and Penn Cole

According to the CinemaDrame news agency, a serialized adaptation of the bestselling fantasy-romance novel “Spark of Orflame” by Heidi Cole McAdams and Penn Cole is now in development.
The streaming platform Hulu has begun developing a project titled “Orflame,” a drama based on the first volume of the popular “Cursed Kin Saga” series written by Cole. The project is being developed in collaboration with Heidi Cole McAdams, Cole herself, and 20th Television.
The story of “Orflame” is set in a world where ordinary humans live in poverty under the rule of a superior race known as the “Descended.” When the mother of “Dame Blathor” disappears, she suspects that the most powerful and feared member of this race, Prince “Luthor Corbeau,” is involved. During her search for the truth, Dame unexpectedly becomes a key figure in the human rebellion against the Descended, while also becoming entangled in an unexpected love triangle.
McAdams serves as writer and executive producer, while Cole is also attached as a producer. 20th Television is handling production of the series.
Cole commented on the collaboration, saying she is “very excited” to work with Heidi Cole McAdams on adapting the series. She praised McAdams’ understanding of the story’s core themes and her ability to translate narrative into visual media while preserving elements beloved by readers. She added that McAdams’ enthusiasm makes her an ideal collaborator and expressed confidence that the adaptation will attract both longtime fans and new audiences.
McAdams previously served as co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of the mystery series “Death and Other Details,” which premiered on the same platform in 2024.
Cole is a bestselling fantasy-romance author and lawyer whose works have appeared on lists such as The New York Times and USA Today. The Cursed Kin Saga follows Dame Blathor, a healer who, while searching for her missing mother, becomes involved in a civil war between oppressed humans and the magical semi-divine race known as the Descended.
The first book was independently released in 2023 and quickly went viral on social media before being picked up by a major publisher and re-released in 2024. It has since sold over 3 million copies in 18 languages worldwide, with more than 1 million copies sold of the first volume alone. The final installment of the series is scheduled for release on September 8, 2026.
