Production on Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 Delayed Indefinitely

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Amazon has indefinitely delayed production on the second season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith due to what has been described as “cast-related issues.” The series ended its first season on a cliffhanger, leaving audiences now facing a longer wait than expected for the continuation.
Mark Edelstein (Anora) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) were announced in December and February as the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith for season two.
In March, reports revealed that Amazon MGM had received a $22.4 million tax credit from the California Film Commission to move production from New York to Los Angeles. Speculation followed that Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Wagner Moura, and Gael García Bernal might appear in guest roles, though none were confirmed. The delay could complicate California’s incentive program, as productions must begin filming within 18 months of receiving credits, though extensions are possible.
The series was created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, telling the story of two strangers—played by Glover and Maya Erskine—forced to live under the identities of John and Jane Smith as rookie spies.
Sloane is set to return as executive producer and showrunner, with Glover also returning as executive producer. However, it was announced this week that Sloane has joined season three of Big Little Lies following the production delay.
Season one of Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiered this past February, earning 16 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama for Glover and Erskine. The show ultimately won two awards, including an Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Drama for Michaela Coel.
