Djimon Hounsou Joins Henry Cavill in Highlander Reboot

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of Amazon MGM’s reboot of the classic film Highlander, alongside Henry Cavill, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, and Russell Crowe. Hounsou, who previously appeared with Gillan and Bautista in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, will play an immortal warrior from Africa in the film.

It was previously reported that Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick franchise, will direct the fantasy action film, with Michael Finch penning the screenplay based on the 1980s cult classic.

In the original film, Christopher Lambert starred as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior, while Sean Connery played the swordsman Ramirez, as they hunted each other in pursuit of greater power. Cavill and Crowe will now take on the roles of MacLeod and Ramirez, while Marisa Abela has been cast in another role. Dave Bautista will play Kurgan, a barbarian immortal who has slain others of his kind across centuries—a role originally played by Clancy Brown. Karen Gillan will portray Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife.

Hounsou, a two-time Oscar nominee for Blood Diamond and In America, also played Korath in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently collaborated with Zack Snyder on the sci-fi epic Rebel Moon and has appeared in both A Quiet Place films.
