James Gunn’s Superman Sequel Set for 2027 Release

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the sequel to James Gunn’s Superman will hit theaters in less than two years. Gunn, who directed the film and serves as co-chair of DC Studios, announced on social media this Wednesday that the sequel will be titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow and will premiere on July 9, 2027.
Along with the announcement, Gunn shared an image of Superman standing beside Lex Luthor in his iconic battle armor, confirming that the sequel will continue to focus on Luthor’s rivalry with the Man of Steel. In DC Comics lore, Luthor—played by Nicholas Hoult in Superman—develops this armor to match Superman’s powers. In the first film, he also created a cloned doppelgänger of Superman.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, stated in August that Gunn would return to both write and direct the sequel. The first installment, released earlier this summer, grossed more than $611 million worldwide, becoming both the highest-grossing superhero film of the year and the most successful Superman film ever.

Before Man of Tomorrow arrives, DC will release Supergirl in 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Anna Moegiar. Warner Bros. and DC have also begun work on Clayface, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie.
Another major DC project, The Batman: Part II, directed by Matt Reeves, is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
