Park Chan-wook returns to Venice: It took twenty years to make No Other Choice

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, veteran Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook has returned to the Venice Film Festival with No Other Choice, competing for the Golden Lion. At the film’s press conference, he revealed that he had been developing No Other Choice for two decades but faced financial obstacles in bringing it to life.
Park explained that he waited until he was certain he had the necessary budget: “It’s been about 20 years since I was last in Venice. And it also took 20 years to make this film. During that time, I was able to gather a wonderful group of actors, whom you see here. Thanks to them, I was able to secure the financing I needed, and I finally got the budget I wanted.”
The story follows Bruno, a paper company manager who enjoys his work but takes his dismissal in stride. After two years of fruitless job hunting, his optimism gives way to despair, and his wife, Marlene, takes on a second job. Bruno then decides to identify and kill his competitor in order to be the sole qualified candidate for a position. The cast includes Lee Byung-hun (Squid Game) and Son Ye-jin (Crash Landing on You).
Neon will release No Other Choice in the United States.
