Eight-minute standing ovation for Jay Kelly at the Venice Film Festival and an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach, received more than eight minutes of standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. The film currently holds an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 12 reviews.
George Clooney, due to a “severe sinus infection,” did not attend the film’s press conference but walked the red carpet at the premiere. After the screening, he embraced the cast members and his wife, Amal.
This “tragicomic comedy” tells the story of two middle-aged Hollywood men, played by George Clooney and Adam Sandler, who, during a chaotic weekend, get caught up in youthful impulses, creating both hilarious and heartfelt moments that ultimately lead them to their senses. Other cast members include Laura Dern, Riley Keough, Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Emily Mortimer, and Greta Gerwig, Baumbach’s real-life wife. Baumbach directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Emily Mortimer.
Clooney had previously told Vanity Fair: “When you’re in that position and age, finding roles like this isn’t very common. If you can’t come to terms with aging, you need to get out of this business and disappear.”
In another part of the interview, he praised Adam Sandler’s performance: “I always tell actors: don’t call him ‘Sandman.’ Don’t talk to him as if he’s some unserious comedian. He’s actually a really good actor.”
Baumbach previously directed White Noise, The Meyerowitz Stories, and Marriage Story for Netflix, and co-wrote Barbie alongside his wife, Greta Gerwig.
Jay Kelly will be released in U.S. theaters on November 14 and will stream on Netflix starting December 5.
