Hilary Duff Joins Hulu Comedy Series Pretty Ugly

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Hilary Duff is set to star in a comedy series titled Pretty Ugly for Hulu. The show is based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Craker Butler, who will adapt his own work for the screen.

Duff will play a mother named Miranda Miller, whose mission is to make her 10-year-old daughter, Billie, a winner in beauty pageants. Miranda herself was once a teenage queen in the same competitions, and now dreams of endorsement deals and perhaps even a TV show. But Billie is not eager to follow this path. While Miranda is busy building a beauty empire, her nurse husband Ray impregnates the eighteen-year-old granddaughter of one of his cancer patients, and the girl’s widowed mother begins plotting his murder.

Duff rose to fame with the comedy series Lizzie McGuire and later appeared in films such as Cheaper by the Dozen alongside Steve Martin, A Cinderella Story, and Agent Cody Banks. In recent years, she has starred in TV Land’s dramedy series Younger and Hulu’s How I Met Your Father.

Butler, an Emmy nominee, has previously written for Only Murders in the Building, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and The Neighbors.
