Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters Revives the U.S. Box Office

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters is on track to gross over $15 million by next Sunday, surpassing Weapons.

At a time when theatrical distributors were bracing for a sluggish weekend that could have marked one of 2025’s lowest box office totals, Netflix opted to release its hit musical animation Kpop Demon Hunters in more than 1,000 theaters. Tickets for the film were sold across 1,100 screens, and weekend grosses are expected to exceed $15 million, outpacing Weapons, which is projected to earn $13.5 million in its third weekend.

On Netflix, Kpop Demon Hunters has already reached 210.5 million viewers and is poised to break the 230.9 million record set by Red Notice. Remarkably, its audience numbers have not dropped over the past two weeks.

Box office figures for Kpop Demon Hunters will not be released until Saturday, making projections for Sunday uncertain. The film primarily targets young female audiences, who typically drive strong opening-day sales. While Netflix does not usually report theatrical grosses, it did release figures for Knives Out: Glass Onion, which earned $15 million domestically.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, Kpop Demon Hunters was recorded in English but set in Seoul, following three K-pop singers who battle demons with the power of their songs. Arden Cho, Mi Hong, and Ji-Young Yoo voice the lead characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoe.

Meanwhile, Ethan Coen’s Honey Don’t is expected to reach $3 million this weekend across 1,300 theaters.
