David Corenswet’s Superman Audition Tape Released

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, before being chosen to play Superman in James Gunn’s DC Universe, David Corenswet was not widely known, with credits including the film Pearl and the series The Politician. However, Gunn became convinced after watching Pearl that Corenswet could embody the world’s greatest superhero in a defining film.
Warner Bros. and DC, however, did not rely solely on Pearl and required Corenswet to audition. One of those audition tapes has now been officially released, showing the actor demonstrating his skills in the iconic “Lois vs. Clark” interview scene. In the sequence, Corenswet had to convey a range of emotions, including surprise, frustration, and pride. The released video runs three minutes, though the full scene extends to eleven.
To portray Clark Kent, Corenswet had to gain 40 pounds and resemble former Superman actor Henry Cavill. Interestingly, Nicholas Hoult—now cast as the villain Lex Luthor—also auditioned for the role of Superman. He later revealed that when he encountered Corenswet on the day of the audition, he thought to himself: “Strange—this is Superman.”
Gunn has confirmed that the script for the new Superman is in development, though the project is not a traditional sequel. In addition to this film, DC is producing Supergirl starring Milly Alcock and The Batman II with Robert Pattinson, though the latter is not part of the DC Universe. The new Superman film has recently crossed $600 million at the global box office.
