Guillermo del Toro Opposes Digital Replication of Frankenstein Set: “Give Me Hammering and Plastering”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Oscar-winning Mexican director Guillermo del Toro says he refused to allow the use of green screens and excessive digital effects in Netflix’s Frankenstein.

In a new interview with Variety, he said: “I love real sets. I don’t like digital. I don’t like artificial intelligence. I don’t like replication. I love traditional craftsmanship. I like painting, masonry, hammering, and plastering.”
The 150-minute, $120 million film stars Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Monster. Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and Charles Dance round out the cast.
Del Toro not only directs but also wrote the screenplay based on Mary Shelley’s novel. Alexandre Desplat, who previously collaborated with del Toro on the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water, will compose the score.
Frankenstein will premiere in theaters on October 17 and stream on Netflix starting November 7.
