World Premiere of Liam Neeson-Produced ‘The Lost Children of Tuam’ Set for Galway Film Fleadh
According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, the Galway Film Fleadh will host the world premiere of a highly significant local feature produced by Hollywood star Liam Neeson alongside the Oscar-winning production company Element Pictures. The Lost Children of Tuam, directed by Frank Berry and written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, will make its debut at this prestigious cinematic event.
Based on a groundbreaking and controversial exposé by The New York Times, the film tells the shocking true story of the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, Ireland. In 2013, local historian and researcher Catherine Corless uncovered evidence indicating that the remains of 796 infants and children had been buried in unmarked graves on the institution’s grounds. This horrifying discovery sparked a relentless pursuit of justice for the victims and survivors across Irish society. In the film, Monica Dolan stars as Catherine Corless, sharing the screen with Andrew Bennett and Ian McElhinney.
Charlene Lydon, the Galway Film Fleadh’s programmer, described the film as a deeply moving and humanistic work. She noted that it uncovers a painful chapter of contemporary history with immense sensitivity and respect for the lost children and survivors. In an official statement, the film’s producers expressed their pride in launching the project’s journey in Galway, emphasizing that the movie chronicles the tireless fight to uncover a horrific truth that shook Ireland to its core—a truth whose repercussions are still felt today. The film will screen on July 12 as a highlight of the 38th Galway Film Fleadh.
