First Audition, Instantly Cast as the Lead: How a 26-Year-Old Model Stunned Hollywood for ‘The White Lotus’

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Marissa Long, a 26-year-old model from Tulsa with no prior professional acting experience, has successfully landed a pivotal lead role in the highly anticipated and fiercely guarded fourth season of HBO’s critically acclaimed anthology series The White Lotus. Filming on location across the French Riviera and southern France, series creator Mike White previously hinted that the upcoming installment’s overarching theme will tackle “celebrity and fame.”
Bound by strict non-disclosure agreements, Long is prohibited from revealing her character’s name, arc, or specific plot points. However, she confirmed that she portrays a rising young actress visiting France to promote her film at the Cannes Film Festival. Until recently, Long worked exclusively as a fashion model; her closest connection to the film industry was merely helping her actor boyfriend, Tanner Zagarino, run through lines and record bedroom self-tapes. Last November, she decided to try her luck for the very first time by submitting her own self-tape—a spontaneous decision that completely altered the trajectory of her life.
Reflecting on the spectacular casting choice, executive producer David Bernad spoke with IndieWire, stating:
“Without any exaggeration, we had looked at well over 100 actors for this particular role. But the moment Marissa’s audition tape played, the reaction from everyone in the room was instant and unanimous. She possessed an undeniable authenticity and charisma that quite literally illuminated the screen. Marissa has a raw, innate talent and a profound comfort in front of the camera that simply cannot be bought or taught.”
Long has been on location filming in France since April, sharing the screen with an illustrious ensemble cast that includes Laura Dern (who stepped in to replace Helena Bonham Carter), Steve Coogan, Vincent Cassel, Chris Messina, and Heather Graham. The newcomer described the entire whirlwind experience as “the most surreal and magical milestone” of her life.
