Donald Trump Fires Pam Bondi as Attorney General

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, President Donald Trump has dismissed United States Attorney General Pam Bondi, while simultaneously praising her for doing an “extraordinary job” in tackling crime during her approximately 14-month tenure.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that Bondi would be “moving on” to an unspecified position in the private sector. According to the President, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will step in to serve as the Acting Attorney General.

Trump wrote:

“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and Loyal Friend who has served faithfully as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did an extraordinary job overseeing a massive nationwide crackdown on crime, such that murders fell to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be moving on to a new and much-needed Private Sector position that will be announced shortly, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected legal mind, Todd Blanche, will serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump”

However, violent crime in America had already reached a two-decade low during the final year of Joe Biden’s presidency. An analysis of data from 35 major U.S. cities published by the Council on Criminal Justice in January indicated that the 2025 homicide rate could indeed be the lowest since 1900.

Bondi’s departure comes as the Department of Justice is reviewing a massive Hollywood deal: the Paramount-Skydance bid for a $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. Last month, Omid Asafi, the interim head of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, stated that the deal would “by no means” be fast-tracked for approval, citing political reasons and the Ellison family’s friendly ties with Trump. Asafi took over the role after the firing of his predecessor, Gale Slater, who reportedly clashed with Bondi.

In a post on X on Thursday, Bondi wrote that she is transitioning to “an important Private Sector position that I am very excited about, and where I will continue to support President Trump and this Administration.”

She added:

“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safe and secure again has been a high honor, and without a doubt the most consequential first year of a DOJ in American history. I am forever grateful for the trust President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.”

Bondi was sworn in as the 87th U.S. Attorney General on February 5, 2025. CNN reported that Trump has been “unhappy with Bondi’s performance on several fronts,” citing anonymous sources. The President was reportedly dissatisfied with her “handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and was also angry that Bondi has not investigated or prosecuted his political opponents enough.”

According to her biography on the DOJ website, Bondi is a fourth-generation Floridian from Tampa and served as a prosecutor for over 18 years, handling cases ranging from domestic violence to first-degree murder. She was Florida’s first female Attorney General, serving two consecutive terms from 2011 to 2019.

Last month, Trump also dismissed Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, making her the first cabinet member of Trump’s second term to be fired.
