Kit Harington Joins New Adaptation of Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, MGM+ and the BBC are producing a new series based on Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), François Civil (The Three Musketeers), and Mirren Mack (Miss Austen) will star in the four-part drama.
Daniel West (Top Boy) serves as creator, while British filmmaker Hong Khaou will direct. The series is slated to air next year on MGM+ and the BBC.
The classic novel is set in London in 1782, at the height of tensions between France and Britain. Mirren Mack plays a young woman, Lucie Manette, who discovers that the father she believed dead for twenty years may still be alive. François Civil portrays Charles Darnay, a French émigré who delivers this message from Paris. When Darnay is arrested, Lucie seeks help from the brilliant but troubled lawyer Sydney Carton, played by Harington, to secure his release and accompany her to Paris in search of her father.
First published in 1859, the novel is regarded as one of the greatest works of the 19th century. Previous adaptations include Jim Goddard’s 1980 film starring Chris Sarandon and Peter Cushing, and ITV’s 1989 miniseries starring James Wilby and Xavier Deluc.
Federation Stories, which recently produced adaptations of Around the World in 80 Days and Gulliver’s Travels, is behind the project.
Polly Williams and Sara Best will produce for Federation Stories, with Léo Becker for Federation Studio France, and Harington and West for Tricker Films also serving as producers.
