Emily Blunt in John Crowley’s Walk the Blue Fields

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Emily Blunt has joined Walk the Blue Fields as both actress and producer. The film is based on a short story by Claire Keegan, who also wrote Small Things Like These. Production is set to begin in Ireland in late 2025 or early 2026.

John Crowley, director of Brooklyn, is in talks to helm the film in his native Ireland. The screenplay is written by Conor McPherson, the Tony-nominated playwright and screenwriter known for The Girl from the North Country.

Walk the Blue Fields follows the story of a woman who, on her wedding day, must make a difficult decision as her past love triangle is on the verge of being revealed.

Denis O’Sullivan (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Jeff Kalligheri (I Wanna Dance with Somebody) of Compelling Pictures, along with Blunt through her company Ledbury Productions, are producing the project.

Crowley recently directed We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. Blunt and O’Sullivan previously collaborated on The Young Victoria, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. That film earned Blunt a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama and won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. Blunt has recently received positive reviews for The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie and co-starring Dwayne Johnson.

Blunt is currently filming the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada and has wrapped an untitled film directed by Steven Spielberg at Universal. Two years ago, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and she has also joined Martin Scorsese’s upcoming project alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Dwayne Johnson.
