The Oscars 2029 Has a New Home; Ceremony Moves to L.A. Live for the First Time

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the Oscars will undergo significant changes starting in 2029; changes that are not limited to streaming on YouTube but also include relocating this major cinematic event.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that, through a new partnership with AEG, the L.A. Live complex has been selected as the new venue for the Oscars starting in 2029.

Under this agreement, which runs from 2029 to 2039, the Oscars — including the 101st edition of the event — will be held at the Peacock Theater (which may be renamed in the future). This venue has previously hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards.

In a joint statement, Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, and Lynette Howell Taylor, the Academy’s president, described the partnership with AEG as an important step and emphasized the company’s ability to build and manage state-of-the-art venues. According to them, the goal of this collaboration is to create an ideal platform for hosting a world-class ceremony.

Meanwhile, Todd Goldstein, AEG’s Chief Revenue Officer, stated that L.A. Live is designed to host events that shape global culture, with the Oscars being one of the most significant. He described this partnership as an opportunity to redefine the Oscars experience in the years ahead.

As part of this agreement, AEG plans extensive renovations and upgrades to the Peacock Theater, including updates to the stage, audio and lighting systems, backstage areas, and other technical facilities. Special design elements will also be implemented to better accommodate the specific needs of the Oscars.

The L.A. Live complex also features a large open-air area, which has recently been expanded and is intended for use in red carpet events and ancillary activities.

These changes come while the Oscars will continue to be broadcast on ABC and held at their current venue, the Dolby Theatre, until 2028 (the 100th edition).

It is worth noting that starting in 2029, in addition to the venue change, the Oscars will be streamed globally on YouTube for the first time — a move that signifies a fundamental shift in how this event is presented to audiences worldwide.
