An “Insulting” Gift from a Male Actor to Margot Robbie: French Women Don’t Get Fat

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Margot Robbie, in a new interview with Complex alongside Charli XCX, revealed that she once received an “insulting” book from a male actor.
She said: “Early, very early in my acting career, a fellow actor—a male actor—gave me a book titled French Women Don’t Get Fat, which was basically a book telling you to eat less. And I thought: ‘Get lost.’” Robbie added, “He basically gave me the book to make me realize I should lose weight. And I thought: ‘Wow.’”
The book, written by Mireille Giuliano, was published in 2007—the same year the Australian actress made her first appearances in films and TV series. She gained wider recognition in 2012 with the series Pam Am and a year later with Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, followed by roles in Suicide Squad, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Barbie.
Robbie’s latest film is Emerald Fennell’s cinematic adaptation of the classic novel Wuthering Heights, originally published in 1847. Charli XCX has composed new songs for the movie.
Wuthering Heights tells the story of destructive relationships between two families: the Earnshaws and the Lintons. Mr. Lockwood, a tenant at Thrushcross Grange, serves as the story’s first-person narrator, learning the history of Wuthering Heights from Nelly Dean, the longtime housekeeper. The tragic and romantic tale between orphan Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw forms the central plot. Margot Robbie will play Catherine Earnshaw, and Jacob Elordi will portray Heathcliff. Other cast members include Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif.
Wuthering Heights is scheduled for wide release on February 13, 2026.
