First Look at Netflix’s Animated Film Steps

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Netflix has unveiled the first official image from Steps, a revisionist retelling of the classic fairy tale Cinderella.
Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu voice Lilyth and Margo, Cinderella’s stepsisters—who, instead of being portrayed as villains, are depicted as kind-hearted and deeply misunderstood girls. When Lilyth accidentally turns her sister Margo into a frog using a stolen magic wand, she must team up with Cinderella to save their kingdom.
The film is directed by John Ripa, one of the directors of Raya and the Last Dragon, alongside Alyce Tzue, who won the Student Academy Award for her short film Soar. Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell, and Kim Lessing serve as producers.
Netflix first announced the production of Steps in 2021. At the time, Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci were slated to write new songs for the film, but it now appears both have exited the project.
This first-look image arrives as Netflix enjoys a strong year in animation thanks to KPop Demon Hunters, which became the most-watched film in the platform’s history and received a Golden Globe nomination this week.
Steps will premiere on Netflix in 2026.
