First Teaser Released for “The Backrooms” Directed by 19-Year-Old YouTuber
According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, A24 unveiled the first teaser this Tuesday for the sci-fi horror film The Backrooms, directed by 19-year-old YouTuber Kane Parsons.
Parsons’ short videos on YouTube, which have amassed over 200 million views, featured a 1990s aesthetic and followed a young filmmaker who enters an alternate dimension, wandering through a deserted office space that may be home to supernatural entities. Parsons is directing the feature film based on a screenplay by Roberto Patino.
The cast includes Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is producing the project through his 21 Laps banner.
The Backrooms is scheduled to be released on May 29, 2026.
