Zack Snyder to make war film The Last Photograph with 300 writer

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, after directing the sci-fi films Rebel Moon—originally intended as another Star Wars but poorly received by critics—Zack Snyder will next helm the war drama The Last Photograph, starring Irish actor-singer Fra Fee and Scottish actor Stuart Martin, who also appeared in Rebel Moon. Snyder had been pursuing this project since the mid-2000s.
Production will begin in late August in Colombia, Iceland, and Los Angeles, with a budget significantly smaller than most of Snyder’s previous films.
Kurt Johnstad, who penned the screenplays for 300 and Rebel Moon, is once again collaborating with Snyder on The Last Photograph.
The story follows a former DEA agent who must travel to South America after the murder of a diplomat couple to find their children, relatives of his. He is joined by a war photographer who is the only witness to the killers’ faces. Their journey into uncharted lands takes them farther from civilization, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion.
Snyder had originally set the story in Afghanistan, intending to depict the lone survivor of a group of Americans attacked there. Christian Bale and Sean Penn were attached to the project in the early 2010s, but Snyder instead chose to work with DC at the time.
