YouTube Kicks Off a New Era of Podcasting with Exclusive Event and “Top Podcasts Lineup”

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, coinciding with the peak of excitement at SXSW in Austin, YouTube hosted an intimate event, Creator Collective: Podcast Edition, showing podcast creators how to succeed in the future of video podcasting.

YouTube has positioned itself as the new frontier for podcast media, offering extraordinary opportunities for audience reach and engagement. The platform celebrated content creators—those who invest significant time and energy in attracting online audiences and producing engaging visual content. YouTube invited two of the biggest names in podcasting, Tefi Pessoa from Tefi Talks and Vivian Tu from Your Rich BFF, to discuss expanding from short videos to long-form video podcasts.

Vivian Tu said, “I get the most visibility from all my Shorts. People think, ‘Oh, this is funny’ or ‘This is relevant to me,’ and then they visit my page and see, ‘Oh, this YouTube video has half a million views, this video has comments from YouTube heavyweights—maybe it’s worth watching.’”

Features like the Collaboration tool, which allows linking collaborators and sharing videos across multiple channels, have enabled leading voices in the podcast industry to reach new audiences. Tu’s account is an example of why YouTube is such a powerful discovery platform. In the era of social media and modern podcasts, video remains the most effective tool for visibility.

With billions of monthly active users who watch over 100 million hours of podcasts daily, YouTube has become the primary space for audiences to connect with their favorite creators. The line between content creator and podcaster is blurring, as podcasters are often creators and creators often podcasters. Both are seeking to engage audiences and connect with fellow storytellers.

Steve McLendon stated, “Using video on YouTube is a major catalyst for creators, increasing podcast visibility and organically attracting new audiences. We’ve worked hard to enhance both the creator and audience experience, making YouTube the home for video podcasts.”

YouTube’s systems connect interested audiences to creators, helping lesser-known talents gain exposure. McLendon added, “Even for novice podcasters, YouTube’s search and discovery capabilities match content with the right audience, increasing the chances of attracting new listeners.”

Part of YouTube’s success formula is allowing creators to express their authenticity and maintaining unrestricted access. On YouTube, creators retain control over editing and distributing their podcasts, enabling them to produce content that captivates audiences.

McLendon added, “We take pride in our creators’ success on and off YouTube. The recent surge in interest for video podcasts reflects their cultural impact. We focus heavily on improving YouTube for creators, growing audiences, and expanding their business opportunities.”

This appeal isn’t limited to creators; brands and advertisers are also choosing YouTube. To help brands reach highly engaged audiences, YouTube introduced the Top Podcasts Lineup in the U.S. This tool categorizes the most popular podcasts in genres like comedy, sports, news, true crime, and society & culture, making it easier to purchase ad space in the most-viewed shows.

Christine Fujioka said, “With YouTube’s massive, diverse, and growing audience, advertisers have unparalleled opportunities. Video podcasts have become modern television, serving as hubs of today’s cultural conversations beyond educational listening.”

YouTube, with its accessibility on home and mobile devices, has opened a world of opportunities. In October 2025, viewers watched over 700 million hours of podcasts on home devices, up from 400 million hours the previous year.

Fujioka said, “YouTube is the most effective way to reach audiences at home and beyond. The platform delivers unique efficiency, flexibility, and cultural impact at its core.”

McLendon added, “One of YouTube’s unique features is the ability to engage with content on any device, anywhere. The combination of video, audio, and universal accessibility drives podcast growth on YouTube. Young and international audiences can easily connect with creators worldwide.”
