Warner Bros. Sets Gremlins 3 for 2027 Release, Produced by Spielberg and Columbus

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Warner Bros. has officially announced that Gremlins 3, produced by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, will be released on November 19, 2027.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros., confirmed on Thursday that the screenplay is being written by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky. No details about the plot or cast have been revealed yet.

Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins (1984), and Steven Spielberg, who produced it, are both returning to the franchise. Over the years, rumors about a third Gremlins installment have surfaced repeatedly. Back in 2017, reports indicated that Columbus had written a “dark” version of the script.

The original horror-comedy follows a young man who receives a furry creature known as a Mogwai as a gift. He is warned never to expose it to sunlight or feed it after midnight. When those rules are broken, the Mogwai spawns mischievous and destructive Gremlins that wreak havoc on a small town during Christmas. The first film grossed $212 million worldwide, while the sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, earned $41 million.

In 2017, Columbus said:

“I’m really proud of that script. It’s as dark and twisted as anything I’ve written, so we’ll see what happens. The issue is always budget, especially when it’s time to start shooting. I wanted to return to the complex tone of the first movie—it came naturally to me, and writing it again felt like going home. Hopefully, audiences will get to see it soon.”

In 2025, Warner Bros. topped the global box office with seven consecutive hits, including Sinners and A Minecraft Movie, breaking multiple records. One of the studio’s few underperformers that year was Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which grossed over $100 million but still resulted in a $100 million loss, given its $130 million production budget.
