Vince Gilligan: Pluribus Doesn’t Share a Universe with Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Vince Gilligan said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter that it’s unlikely he’ll ever create another series set in the Breaking Bad universe. Nearly a decade ago, Gilligan created the character Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who becomes a drug manufacturer. He later developed the prequel Better Call Saul, which followed the story of Saul Goodman.

However, Gilligan said:
“As much as I love Walter White and as proud as I am of Breaking Bad—and as much as it’ll probably be mentioned in the first sentence of my obituary—at some point you think: It would be nice to create another hero, someone who’s just trying to do the right thing.”
Elsewhere in the interview, he downplayed the possibility of producing another project tied to Walter White, adding that the character Carol Sturka, played by Rhea Seehorn in his new series Pluribus, has no connection to Kim Wexler from Better Call Saul:
“I knew there’d be a lot of questions about what it means: Are we going to find out in season two that Carol Sturka is Kim Wexler’s long-lost twin sister? No, we’re not. [Laughs.] Spoiler: she has no connection to any other character. This isn’t the Albuquerque of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. I know some people will be disappointed, but the simple reason we shot there is because I love that crew.”
Pluribus tells the story of the unhappiest person on Earth who must save the world from happiness. Karolina Wydra, known for her roles in House and True Blood, also stars in the series. The show will premiere on Apple TV on November 7, 2025.
