Trump celebrates cancellation of Tom Hanks award: Now change the “fake awards” rules at the Oscars

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, after the cancellation of an award meant for Tom Hanks, Donald Trump expressed delight on Truth Social, saying it is time to rewrite the rules of the Academy’s “fake awards.”

The 69-year-old Hanks was set to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the West Point Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy.

Trump welcomed the cancellation and wrote on Monday: “Our great West Point (which is always getting greater!) wisely canceled the award ceremony for Tom Hanks. An important move! We don’t need to give our precious awards to destructive, woke individuals!!!”

He then urged the Academy to follow the same path: “I hope the Oscars and other fake award ceremonies reconsider their criteria and guidelines in the name of fairness and justice. Just watch how their dead ratings will soar!”

The Washington Post was the first to report that the West Point Association of Graduates would cancel the award for Hanks. The Sylvanus Thayer Award is given to a citizen who, though not a West Point graduate, embodies the academy’s motto: “Duty, Honor, Country.”

In June, the association had selected Hanks for the honor in recognition of his decades of portraying U.S. soldiers and veterans. Robert McDonald, chairman of the board, said: “Tom Hanks has painted a positive image of the American soldier… more than many other Americans have.”

Hanks’s career includes starring in Steven Spielberg’s war film Saving Private Ryan and serving as director, writer, and producer on the miniseries Band of Brothers. He publicly supported Joe Biden in 2020, but The Washington Post reported that this year’s ceremony was canceled due to fears of political turmoil at the military academy.

At present, there is no evidence that the White House was involved in canceling the event.
