Trailer for The Secret Agent: Brazil’s Official Oscar Submission

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first official trailer for The Secret Agent, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, has been released. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, has been selected as Brazil’s official entry for the 2026 Academy Awards. Last year, the Brazilian film I’m Still Here, directed by Walter Salles, won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

The Secret Agent follows Marcelo, a forty-something technology expert on the run in 1977 Brazil, who travels to Recife during Carnival week to visit his son — only to realize that he is not safe. The film stars Wagner Moura, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Gabriel Leone, Carlos Francisco, Alice Carvalho, and Hermila Guedes.

Filho, who also wrote the screenplay, said at Cannes that the film is an exploration of how people “operate, resist, or surrender within oppressive systems.”

The film will be released by Neon in the United States on November 26, and by MUBI in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and several Latin American countries.
