Trailer for Hedda: A New Adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Play

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first trailer for Nia DaCosta’s film adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler, titled Hedda, has been released. DaCosta’s fourth feature film, starring Tessa Thompson, will stream on Prime Video in October.

Hedda portrays the psychological struggles of a young bride who drives her former lover to suicide. The film also stars Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss.

Henrik Ibsen’s play, written in 1891, has often been described as a masterpiece, with critics such as Joseph Wood Krutch linking it to Sigmund Freud, the psychoanalyst who published his works a decade later.

Hedda marks DaCosta’s first film since the commercial failure of Marvel Studios’ The Marvels. She has also joined 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, a sequel to 28 Years Later directed by Danny Boyle.

This week at the Edinburgh Festival, DaCosta stated that the difference between The Marvels and The Bone Temple came down to “a solid script”: “One of the problems with Candyman and The Marvels was the lack of a solid script, which always undermines the entire process.”

Hedda will be released in theaters on October 22 and will stream on Prime Video on October 29.
