Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez to Star in Illumination’s Sci-Fi Animated Feature ‘Not Alone’

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez have been cast as the lead voice actors in the upcoming alien-centric animated feature Not Alone. The project comes from Illumination, the powerhouse studio behind massive franchises such as Despicable Me and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The exciting announcement was officially made during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
In his animation voice-acting debut, Timothée Chalamet will voice “Joe,” an introverted rocket mechanic who leads a quiet, solitary life. Opposite him, Selena Gomez will lend her voice to “Fern,” a brilliant space botanist who is developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket. According to the released synopsis, as the two join forces to prepare for the launch of this revolutionary spacecraft, romantic sparks begin to fly, though neither possesses much experience in navigating relationships. The plot takes a chaotic and comedic turn when three small, rebellious, and adorable aliens named Dunk, Wally, and Shirm seek refuge in Joe’s home. Fleeing from a strict yet clumsy law enforcement officer named Agent Zandro, these lovable extraterrestrials quickly realize that Fern’s rocket might just be their ultimate ticket back home.
Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou will provide the voices for the three alien creatures, while Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is set to voice Agent Zandro. The ensemble cast also includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris. Not Alone is directed by a veteran Illumination creative team consisting of Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan del Val, with the studio’s founder Chris Meledandri serving as producer. The highly anticipated animated feature is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 16, 2027.
