Bob Odenkirk has once again stepped into the shoes of everyone’s favorite criminal defense attorney, starring in a public service announcement titled “Know Your Rights” to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
In the video, which was uploaded to a YouTube account named “Saul for Democracy” and shared on the social media platform Bluesky by Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould, Odenkirk proclaims: “Hi, I’m Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? Well, you do! Granted, they’re a little dusty, written by a bunch of guys in powdered wigs and stockings. Boring, but believe it or not, they are still surprisingly useful.”
Odenkirk continues in his iconic fast-talking style: “Your rights include things like freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, protection from unreasonable searches and seizures, and so on and so forth. Wow, you lucky ducks! You get all these rights just because a bunch of fine folks over the past 250 years sacrificed everything they had so this awesome wallpaper behind me could exist.” At this moment, he points to the famous backdrop of his office featuring the text of the US Constitution.
The video concludes with Odenkirk saying, “Know your rights, and for ‘Mike’s’ sake, never let them go.” Suddenly, Jonathan Banks steps into the frame as Mike Ehrmantraut, Saul’s famous fixer, to deliver the final punchline: “I’m Mike, and I approve this message.”
It remains unclear when and where this video was filmed—whether they entirely rebuilt the set of Saul Goodman’s office or if Odenkirk performed in front of a green screen. However, Peter Gould confirmed the authenticity of the clip online. Responding to two fans who suspected the video was generated by artificial intelligence, he explicitly emphasized: “This is not AI.”
Better Call Saul concluded its brilliant six-season run on AMC in 2022. Prior to that, Odenkirk played the shady lawyer for five years on Breaking Bad. Odenkirk has previously expressed hesitation about reprising the role of Saul Goodman for another television series, noting that any comeback would need to remain faithful to the show’s definitive ending. Speaking in 2025, he remarked: “If there were another show for Saul, it would have to take place inside a prison.”
