The First Official Trailer for Daniel Day-Lewis’s Anemone

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Focus Features has released the first official trailer for Anemone, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, about a month ahead of its premiere at the 63rd New York Film Festival. Eight years after retiring with Phantom Thread, Day-Lewis returns to acting in his son’s film.
Ronan Day-Lewis, son of Daniel Day-Lewis, makes his directorial debut with Anemone and co-wrote the script with his father for Focus. Brad Pitt, through his company Plan B, serves as one of the film’s producers.
This drama is described as a story about “the relationships between fathers, sons, brothers, and family ties,” following a man named Ray Stoker, who struggles with his past in an isolated region. The cast also includes Samantha Morton, Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. Ben Fordesman (Love Lies Bleeding) serves as cinematographer, Jane Petrie (The Crown) as costume designer, and Chris Oddy (The Zone of Interest) as production designer.
The trailer focuses on a dialogue between Day-Lewis’s and Bean’s characters. Day-Lewis’s character says: “All these years, this isolation, this is my life.” Recalling his bitter past in the army, he adds: “The army teaches you to smirk and endure. The war was a crime, and we were imaginary soldiers.” Bean replies: “I can’t help you until you tell me what happened.” Day-Lewis answers: “Was that a question? What do you want from me, brother? What do you want?” When Bean says, “You’re going to hell, brother,” Day-Lewis does not object: “It’s a family reunion.”
The Gangs of New York and In the Name of the Father actor had announced his retirement after receiving an Oscar nomination for Phantom Thread directed by Paul Thomas Anderson in 2017, as he had once before in 1996 following The Boxer.
Focus Features will release Anemone in limited theaters on October 3, followed by a wide release on October 10.
